Formation, in New York

Moody's background starts in art education and design, not technology. A Bachelor of Science in Art Education from Skidmore College was followed by freelance broadcast design work in New York City, then six years as an Associate Broadcast Producer and Art Director at Palio Communications in Saratoga Springs: shooting, editing, and art-directing everything from trade-show video to broadcast packages, and running the parts of a production business that never make the reel, scheduling, client management, budgets.

In parallel, he completed a Master of Fine Arts in Electronic Arts at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute's iEAR program, a graduate program built around video, sound, and installation as a single expanded medium rather than separate disciplines. That instinct, treating image, sound, and interaction as one connected system, has stayed the throughline of everything since.

Teaching abroad: Sharjah and Dubai

In 2007, Moody moved to the UAE to teach Applied Communications at Sharjah Women's College, part of the Higher Colleges of Technology: media production, photography, and multimedia. His students were sharp and media-savvy, and three years of teaching across language and cultural context set up the next eight years.

From December 2010 to December 2018, Moody was Associate Professor of Digital Media at the American University in Dubai, and for the first seven of those years also served as Digital Media Coordinator, effectively running the day-to-day build-out of the Digital Media major within the BFA in Visual Communication. He led the program from single digits into one of the fastest-growing majors at the university, built five new industry-standard labs from scratch, saw the department nominated as an Apple Center of Excellence, and led it to recognition as the first Blackmagic Design Academic Training Partner in the Middle East. Graduates went on to Berklee, USC, and Northwestern, among others, one on an Annenberg scholarship.

Daytona State College

Moody joined Daytona State College in 2019, first as Assistant Chair of the Digital and Interactive Media Production program, brought in to bring DIMP up to speed, the same brief he had taken on with the Digital Media major at AUD. He led a full curriculum and mission overhaul that took effect in 2021, steered the program's transition to remote instruction during COVID-19, and grew DIMP into the largest program in the school. In July 2023 he was named Chair of the School of Digital Media Production, part of the Mike Curb College of Music, Entertainment and Art, overseeing four Career and Technical Education programs: Digital and Interactive Media Production, Music Production Technology, Broadcast Television Production, and Photographic Technology.

A large part of that work is people. At Daytona he has rebuilt the faculty across Digital and Interactive Media Production and Photographic Technology, and at AUD he built the Digital Media team from the ground up. In both cases he looked for the same thing: faculty active in their fields and genuinely invested in teaching, supported well enough to mentor students closely. What that builds is a culture rather than a staff, where faculty keep developing their own practice and students learn alongside them.

Across every program he has led, the aim has been the same: learning spaces and experiences where students and faculty thrive.
